The town of Atkinson is one of New Hampshire's best kept secrets. Hidden amongst the pines along the southern edge of the Granite State, Atkinson boasts quaint, comfortable neighborhoods surrounded by a thriving economy. We  at Lewis Builders Development pride ourselves in being part of Atkinson's great history—after all, we have called this town our home for over 60 years!

Atkinson has it all: location, restaurants, schools, parks, and much more. Whether you're looking for a place to start a family or a relaxing town for  your  retirement  , you'll find Atkinson offers a little something for everybody. Let's explore this quaint New England town from the Sawmill Swamp to Atkinson Resort and Country Club, and from America's Stonehenge to Collins Park.

Location, Location, Location

Atkinson offers the perfect bedroom community that makes for the perfect home base for commuters and those wishing to leave the city behind for a quiet place to rest after a long day of work. Atkinson is conveniently located 45 minutes away from Boston, 35 minutes from Manchester, and 40 minutes from Portsmouth. Drive time to the beach is less than an hour, and to the wonderful northern hiking trails, it’s a little over two. You can also reach Maine in an hour and a half and Vermont in about two.

Historical Perspective

Atkinson features a deep, rich history that goes back centuries. For starters, the area is home to America's Stonehenge , which historians have said is "most likely the oldest man-made construction in the United States". The town also plays host to the Atkinson Historical Society, which celebrates the history with numerous events, as well as the Kimball House Museum.

In addition to being a great school for children, the Atkinson Academy is claimed to be the oldest standing co-educational school in the United States. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Food  for Thought

Atkinson's nearby culinary scene is fruitful. The town itself, along with Salem, Plaistow, Lowell, and Lawrence offer everything from seafood to Italian cuisines, Korean to traditional American fare. One of the top-rated restaurants on Yelp for Atkinson is Merrill's Tavern. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. Enjoy an al fresco dining experience with ice cold drafts and delicious cocktails inside near the billiards table and the dart board or outside on the heated patio at the adjoining Stagecoach Grille.

For the Golf Fanatics

Southern  New Hampshire showcases some of the most premiere golf locations in New England. At the center of it all is Atkinson Resort and Country Club. Spread out over 420 beautiful acres of lush green grounds, ARCC offers an 18-hole course that caters to golfers of all skill  levels. Atkinson Resort and Country Club also offers a 9-hole, par 3 course and hosts the Willowcreek Golf Academy on-site.

Community-Minded Likeness

Atkinson celebrates its local community often and with extravagance. There are numerous places where you can do recreational activities such as Collins Park and Dow Commons, which hosts antique truck and car shows, and more. Atkinson is also one of many cities that supports its local economy by erecting scarecrows every year during the month of October. Lewis Builders provides the tree each year at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club for their tree lighting ceremony. In 2018, Atkinson honored its 250th birthday with an enormous parade involving residents and businesses who have been proud to call the town their home.

We are currently maintaining normal operations and advise all to follow the most current guidance from the Center for Disease Control, as well as state and local agencies. As the spread of the coronavirus has evolved, our continued focus has been on the health and safety of our employees and our customers.
